can i transfer clips from imovie hd to ipod?

Yes. Open iMovie. Click on file > Share... > in compress movie for select > expert settings > Click share > in the save as screen at the bottom of it you will see "export:" click on the drop down arrow and select > Movie to iPod. Then just click save.
