My wife found a BEAUTIFUL formal gown for our Air Force ball at J.C. Penney (and it wasn't a poofy dress; it was more along the lines of a cocktail dress).

Try consignment shops. I bought my Senior Prom dress at Goodwill and everyone thought that it was gorgeous!

Try department stores like Dillards, Kohl''s, etc.
they usually have stylish dresses for under $100!

Vintage dresses are in so check out Goodwill or any second hand stores.
