Just curious if anyone here is making decent money on second life. I've heard random stories, but would love to hear from anyone who is doing business and making money..

I believe that money can definitely be made on Second Life; there are people doing it. However, I think that the amount of money you make is DIRECTLY tied to how much work you are willing to put into it. To make a lot of money, especially in the beginning when you are setting up a business, would take a big time commitment. In addition, you'd have to find a market niche that isn't already overloaded in SL. There are TONS of people selling hair and clothes, for example. I think that if you wanted to do either one of those businesses, you'd have to have something incredibly unique. Real Estate is always a good investment with potential to make a lot of money, but you have to HAVE a lot of money in the first place to get that going. I've personally made a small amount of money building in Second Life, but it is a great deal of work, and IMO, wasn't worth the effort. But that's only my opinion, as I tend to look at SL as a game and not a money-making effort. Hope this helps! :)

you certainly shouldn't be looking at it as a sort of supplement to your RL income. It should be a passion that you pursue. Some industries are the subject of vigorous competition, such as the appearance industry. But as in the real life fashion industry, your success largely depends on your immaterial ability to design, whether it's clothes, hair, or guns.

You can also establish yourself in a niche. I knew a guy that was profitable selling surfboards. Another who sold Karate moves. Find something that no one else does, and create a market.

The fact is, you're not going to get filthy stinking rich playing SL. 1000 Linden Dollars (the currency in SL) is about 4 US dollars. But you really shouldn't take the approach that you are looking to get loaded. You should find something you love, and pursue it due to your passion for it. The profits will follow.
