My Mother in law passed away yesterday, but she had no money. My family in no way can afford it, and we have no access to funds. What do I do?

Evidently you will have to go with the cheapest possible funeral, and consider cremation maybe. Talk to a local funeral home and perhaps they will let the family pay off the bill in installments. Sorry about your loss and good luck. Remember she is not in the corspe anymore anyway so to go cheap doesn't matter to her.

Get a hold of your mother-in-law's will. It will specify who is to be the executor of the estate. The executor may be able to take out a loan against the estate for the funeral expenses and then get reimbursed later once the estate is settled. In most wills, all final burial and funeral expenses are to be paid out of the decedent's estate. The funeral homes are used to dealing with situations like this, so they may work with you or refer you to someone who can help you work out the financial issues so you don't have to pay out of your own pocket. You should also check and see if your mother-in-law had a life insurance policy. If she did, most insurance companies can get you a check for up to $5,000.00 for funeral/burial expenses within a matter of days.

What we do is make payments towards the funeral. Check with your Mom funeral director. Also check her will if she wanted to be buried you should give her wishes and do so.
Thanks
