Most any...Soft, Dead, Moist, Easily accessible and large enough to accommodate a queen. Small debris ( cellulose ) under or around your house will attract the opportunistic pests. Earth to wood contact anywhere around your house is the "Gateway to Life" to a termite.

Soft wood like pine are preferred. But they will eat ANY wood or wood product, including paper, if they are hungry. Aromatic woods like cedar and redwood are the most resistant to termites.

I believe they like softer wood better like pine. Or really old brittle wood like rotting support beams.
