If a baby is born in prison the mother might keep the child for about 18 months depending on the prison or mother. Mothers like to keep their child for about 18 months to start a bond and than the child is sent to grandparents or another selected guardian; sometimes when there is no one to take care of the child they are sent to foster care. New born babies outside of prison might not spend a lot of time with the mother at all.

I'd guess that it depends on the prison and the mother and what she's in for. I doubt they'll let her keep it more than a minute if she's in there for infanticide, but if she's in there for robbery or something I'm sure she'd be allowed to keep it for a bit to breastfeed it etc, especially if it would go to her family after.

No as soon as children services can find somewheres for the baby to go they take the baby away. Sometimes right when the baby is born the baby is taken away.
