I have always thought that being a international news correspondent and photographer would be the ultimate job. I love to travel and meet people and the world is absolutely filled with interesting stories, many not particularly happy ones. But I would have loved to be at Yalta for the signing by the Big Three; covered The Great March in China; witness Lester Pearson's Nobel Prize in peacemaking; attended his book launch in 1959 and received a signed copy of Chinua Achebe's masterpiece "As Things Fall Apart"; marched through the bush with Che Guevara and Fidel Castro before they seized control of Havana; interviewed witnesses at John Kennedy's assassination in Dallas in 1963; had a media pass for Woodstock; had ice level seats in Moscow for the 1972 Summit Series in hockey between Canada and USSR; talked to the last U.S. Marine who boarded the last 'copter during the fall of Saigon; attended an after hours party with Johnny Rotten and Sid Viscious; been the first on the scene when John Lennon was murdered; been in the crowd in 1986 when the Challenger exploded shortly after taking off; had tea with Nelson Mandela the day after he was released from prison; interviewed Osama bin Laden in a cave in Pakistan after being blindfolded for two days while riding in a jeep; talked to New York fireman after working 48 straight hours at the scene of the Twin Towers collapse; have an exclusive interview with Laura Bush and ask her: "Is there anything you can do to control your husband?"

There are so many more but I would just be going on and on! Great question. Right now I teach Grade 8 students in a Middle School and I love it . . . but I can always dream.

The best you can hope for in the work world is a reasonably pleasant day, and not getting blamed for anything. And this includes anyone in a "dream job".

My dream job is becoming an "expert". According to Dilbert, the best areas in which to become an expert are:

vital to many areas
shallow in substance
spectacularly uninteresting

Dilbert suggests the following careers:

Facilities management
Database administration
Tax law
