You are asking about basic marketing - the answer depends on what products or services you are selling - your first step should be some basic marketing research - design a simple survey - asking questions about what people think about your type of product or service, how they would like delivered to them and how much would they willing to pay. Then write a business plan looking at start up costs and and activities that would allow you to reach your customers and how long it would take to get a ROI and what is your break-even

What kind of business? Local or internet? retail or wholesale?
In promotion you must be specific or you will loose. I have 4 companies and they are each promoted differently.
I have on worldwide, one national, and 2 local.
