I know I've asked about the emmigration side of things - but people are getting distracted telling me how dangerous SA is and telling me not to go, I'm definitley going but what I'm looking for is technical advice on how to actually do it i.,e. work permits, job hunting, etc etc.
Many thanks again

The best way to get a job that pays you what you are worth is to start your own business. In your area of expertise i would suggest that you become a private fitness trainer or maybe open your own gym. There is lots of money in the Security trade as well, maybe start your own security company!
Else as someone else suggested apply to Virgin Gyms(they are the biggest Gym corporation in SA ) and try get a job there.
If you want to go first off you have to apply to get a work visa i would suggest contacting a SA embassy first . Look it up on the web www.SouthAfricanEmbassies. gov (i think, just search you will find it) there is an embassy in Los Angeles . I dont think it is as hard as getting a Visa to say the U.S for example . Its about R1500 to apply. (about $300). Good Luck .
Its a beautifull country and the lifestyle is very different , make an effort to Learn Zulu and Afrikaans as this will definately make your life easier When dealing with the locals.
P.s My brother is a white male and he just got a brilliant job , working for the government might i add!So its not that hard just have to have the right skills!

Anything? Well, maybe you can waiter in a steakhouse.
Apart from that, forget about getting a decent job if you are white. The racist SA government practically forces companies not to employ white or brown people. That's why more than 20% of the white population and many of the brown population have left SA over the past 10 years. Myself, I have 3 university degrees, but has given up finding a decent job in my country.

I can only wish you luck with finding a job in South-Africa. Jobs there are as scarce as a hen with teeth. You will love SA but just keep it in mind that some of my relatives have been made redundant and cannot find work there . But, still, i wish you all the best, sorry had to tell you that ok:))

Hi Allan, in the beginning you will earn enough to pay the rent, but if you are thinking of staying here long term you will also need to consider the cost of a car (no public transport) and the fun stuff you will want to do.
Here we have a virgin active gym that may be thrilled to have you work for them, try arrange interveiws before you leave the UK.
Im not trying to paint a negative picture for you, but employment is hard to find for whites in this country, and foreigners find it even more difficult
PS bring some british pounds with you, you will be able to buy a HUGE ring for her!

45% unemployment. You tell me how hard work is to find, with BEE and Affirmative Action. I hold five post-matric qualififcations and spent the last three years looking for work. Not successful cause I am not previously disadvantaged.
But by all means go and find this out for yourself ;)

Good luck, it is a stunning country. You will be happy there, thats for sure. Don't listen to the idiots telling you how dangerous it is, they clearly have never been.
I know that the automotive sector around port elizabeth are always looking.

1 000 000 Europeans left in the last 10 years due to crime, no work (affirmative action, BEE), bad politics etc.
That´s 1 000 000 reasons why not to go!
I guess you must think that you know more than them?
Whatever.
Is this the opposite of brain drain?

If you are a White male you have no chance of getting employment. They have Affirmative Action programmes which specifically class White males as "previously advantaged" and actively discourage Employers from hiring them under threat of large fines.
