Right now i have a PC2100 128 MB 266MHz ram card. I'd like to get a PC2700 1 GB which is the highest my pc can handle, my question is do i need to buy a card that is 1GB 266MHz or does it not matter what the MHz is? Most I've seen on ebay are PC2700 1 GB 333MHz - 400MHz

Go here http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ and let it scan your system it will tell you exactly what type of ram your pc can handle.

so... you dont understand what's for the numbers are.
let me tell you....
*for the processor with 400 fsb it use memory pc 2100/ddr266MHz
*for the processor with 533 fsb it use memory pc 2700/ddr333MHz
*for the processor with 800 fsb it use memory pc 3200/ddr400MHz

for sample if your processor with 400 fsb use any memory with pc 2700/333MHz or pc 3200/400MHz, the motherboard will auto adjust your memory to run in 266MHz/run at pc 2100.that call dedgradation.
and in case your processor are 400 fsb and you plug together 2 kind memory with pc 2100/266 MHz and pc 2700/333 MHz,the mainboard will auto adjust to run at pc 2100/266MHz

and if yor processor with 533 fsb or 800 fsb use any memory with pc 2100/266MHz it will not booting,or your processor will have a degradation clock.

now yow understand? thats why they make a different memory with any kind of type.and see if your motherboard had a dual channel technology that is another problem.

so what is your fsb processor?
any question just mail me at zo3nomad@yahoo.com

Your system will bottleneck to the lowest frequency. So even if you get 333MHz ram, it wont run at 333 because other devices that run at a lower frequency will bottleneck.

The chain is only as strong as the weakest link

Many simms will cycle down; try upgrade-solutions.com for the best prices and best guarantees on great simms.
I also agree that the Crucial system Scanner is the best way to go; I just tested the scanner, and its very accurate; however do not buy from crucial, just test there and either go to upgrade solutions, or buy where-ever and get what the scanner says you need to get

as lond as its DDR ....it dosnt matter what MHz is because the module will downgrade it`s speed...so you can put 333 on 266 mainboard...and it`ll work fine....
