Make an appointment at a local (but large) employment agency. Even if you don't use them to look for a position you can take advantage of the training they can provide for you (Reed used to do all the typing tests etc if you were a Secretary/PA and would train you up with refresher courses etc.). Good luck!

Take this opportunity to build something for yourself.
The only way to make money is buy a desirable product the public needs at a low price and sell it for a profit.
Here is a suggestion:

Sell Micro-Fiber Towels.
Your target customers would be Home cleaners, Janitors, Churches wanting to do fundraisers, Car detail shops.
You could give away samples and then those customers end up buying over and over again..

Buy them in Bulk for less than $2.49 ea and resell for $5 or $6 ea
Or sell in packages of 2 per package and sell for $10...
(You can sell more for less effort this way.)

You could even create a free web-site at Yahoo to promote.
Free business cards on Vistaprint

You can buy as little as 5 cloths to try it out...very low start-up just to see if you will enjoy it. If not, use the 5 for yourself...they work great.

I hope this helps and good luck !...

Go to citizen's advice and see if you can get any help with childcare if you need it while you go back to work. That helps. If you need advice about jobs & interview techniques and what jobs are on the market then trawl around a few recruitment agencies. Some rubbish ones won't really have a clue but it's their JOB to know about the market and not just fill jobs, so test them out!
Good luck!

Interviewing with an employment agency would be a good idea they sometimes help you out with interviewing and resume writing. You can also do searches online for interviewing and resume writing. I work with The Employment Guide and we have a publication called the Job Seekers Survival Guide and Guide to Careers publication that might help you out. You can get these usually at our job fairs. Job Fairs will help you meet a recruiter before an interview, it's a good way for you to let your personality shine and secure a job or interview by meeting someone face to face. I also write for some job seeker advice blogs that might be helpful in getting your resume together and getting back into the interviewing process. You can find links to job fairs that we do and to our blog below! Good luck!

the job centre plus is a great place to start, just say that you would like to speak to an adviser, then tell them your situation. It worked for me and I have never looked back,
