According to an interview I saw James said the song was about going your own way and living your own life, and not worrying about what other people think of you.

Iheard it was about how his ex slept with 3 guys who did love her
and how she shouldn't have dumped him cos 'where is she now' and the 3 guys 'wisemen' are 'really sorry now for what they've done, they were three wise men, just tryin' to have some fun.' and like didn't want anything serious but to fool around with her and smoke anything hry could find

its mostly about one of his past relationships with a woman. Read the lyrics carefully, it tells you the story. Basically, most of his songs are about that, his relationships.Look at the lyrics for the rest of his songs in back to bedlam. Most(excluding "no bravery" that ones bout when he was at war and what he saw.) are about his relationships. He feels comfortable enough to let his fans know about his past. So. again, read them, enjoy yourself, learn from his experiences.
