I beg to differ with Matt. Adolf Rupp brought basketball to the masses at Big Blue. Kentucky fans eat, sleep, breathe, dream about basketball. It is a huge program that has lost some of its luster due to Tubby Smith's inability to put together a team with chemistry. He's had plenty of NBA prospects, most recently Rajon Rondo, but he was never able to get them to mesh as a team. He was also responsible for running every facet of the program, something he won't have to do in Minnesota. Kentucky fans expect to win the NCAA Championship every year, anything short is a sin in their eyes, so yes it is the highest pressure job. Just look at Duke's horrible season.....have you seen or heard ONE person calling for Coach K's job? No. What about Calhoun at UCONN? Horrible season, yet no worry that he will be unemployed. The position of Head Coach of The University of Kentucky's Men's Basketball program is one of pressure, stress, and uncertainty. I don't like walking on eggshells, do you?

Yes Kentucky is the highest pressure coaching job, with the rich tradition Kentucky has and being the winningest team in college basketball you are expected to keep that tradtion up if not your in the dog house. It's not the fans you need to worry about it's the people that bring in the money, you don't win no money will come in and that coach is out! I feel sorry for who the next coach is. My pick would be John Calipari

Make no mistake about it, UK is the highest pressure job. Duke had a terrible year, do you see them pushing to fire Coach K? heck no! Kentucky fans will turn on their coach in a heartbeat. UNC and Duke fans will stick with a good coach through the hard times.
Saying Indiana, UNC, and Duke are far above Kentucky as being crazed about their basketball is a ridiculous statement. Kansas and Indiana are crazy about basketball, but dont even begin to compare to Kentucky. UNC and Duke are close, but UK is head and shoulders higher pressure than anywhere else. Tubby Smith was a great coach who won a national title, but just because he hasnt been back to the final four, they wanted him out.
the answer is yes, ask any sports commentator or anybody with the inside info. Dick Vitale lives for Duke and UNC, and even he will tell you, UK is the highest pressure job.
additional........ummm how long has wooden been retired? (in reference to below).....a city like LA where they want your head or your job? that is the most assinine statement i have ever heard. there are TONS of sports teams in LA and that does not classify as a what you are describing. plenty of other things to be passionate about besides UCLA basketball. I will say UCLA is a huge program and maybe the best of all time with their accomplishements, but not even close to the pressure to win at UK, Duke, and UNC. however i agree that the coach after coach k is in for a ride!

Trying replacing a legend like John Wooden (10 NCAA Titles) in a city like LA where if you don't win now they ask for you head or job. But I would say Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana are just as tough. I only left Duke out because they haven't dominated until Coach K got there and he's still there. Would you wanna be the Coach of Duke when he retires....???? Everything you do will be questioned and if you win a national title your were supposed too and that only saves you job for a few more years (ask Tubby Smith about that)......

I think all the powerhouse, history rich colleges all fit this catagory. Kansas, North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky just to name a few.
I dont envy any of these coaches. Just imagine having your future put on the line based on the activity of 18-22 year old kids and how well they do what you tell them to do!
Yikes! Pretty scary when its put like that huh?

if its not it is at least in the top 5. north carolina is in that bracket, and duke will be when coach k leaves. what makes UK such a tough job is that most UK fans and alums are basketball fans only, and also kentucky has no pro sports teams. nobody cares about football because they are consistently bad, but that is changing.

Not even close, try coaching at Duke or North Carolina, where basketball is life. I think Indiana is bigger on basketball as well.
