By far and away the majority of women have no idea it is happening.

Some women may, on occasion, have some low grade pain that may or may not actually be ovulation (there is no way of knowing for sure that it is ovulation without an ultrasound) but very generally speaking ovulation cannot be felt at all.

If it was a distinct and precise feeling then pinpointing it woud be easy, and family planning would be a lot simpler. The fact that ovulation generally goes unnoticed by most women is the reason that there are so many unplanned pregnancies.

I have severe pain when I ovulate. It hurts so much that all I can do is lay down until the pain goes away.

Pain at ovulation is called "mittelschmertz," which is German for middle pain.

Ovulation pain is caused by stimulation of the nerves that innervate the ovary due to the increased size of the ovary and/or bleeding and fluid release from the ruptured follicle.

All while I was on the birth control pill, I didn't even know when it was happening. But once we went off the pill to get pregnant, I could feel it. Pains in my side, one side or the other, just tiny stabbing pains. ugh.
