For firefox you can use a plugin called blocksite
http://ffbrowser.blogspot.com/2007/01/blocksite-firefox-add-ons-mozilla.html

After installation the plugin appears in the tool menu
Tools > Blocksite
If you click on Blocksite a window opens where you can click on add button, you can enter the url or the address of the site to block. You can blacklist and whitelist sites there.

For internet explorer it is as below

there are two ways to do it. One is go to the menu bar of your browser. Click on Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Sites
Enter the name of the site and Click On Block button. Click OK to Exit.

Another way is to edit hosts file. This applies to all browsers. If you are running win XP, login as administrator. open the following file in notepad
C:\ WINDOWS \system32 \drivers \etc \hosts

Put the following line in hosts file:
(put the name of the site to be blocked here, appending 127.0.0.1 before each website to be blocked)
127.0.0.1 www.blockme.com

127.0.0.1 www.blockmetoo.com

save the file. This file can not be opened and edited in Limited account

Blocking so your PC can't see it?

You need to install net nanny or similar software... or a firewall on the PC. then depending what software, you need to configure it to have a rule to block traffic from myspace or the IP addresses of the myspace servers.

I take it you want to stop your kids using myspace? Well, if you do you've also got to stop them being able to revoke the rules that block myspace... plus you've also got to block any web anonymisers that they may use to get at myspace through.

The easiest secure way is to stop anyone using the computer at all... or surfing from it by taking out the modem / DSL connection.

But face it, if you block it, they'll use a friends PC or the school PC... if they want to. Try educating them about the dangers as you see it... or just lay down rules and tell 'em, if they surf myspace they lose internet privileges.

Or...you could open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools--->Internet Options--->Security tab--->Highlight the red "Restricted sites" icon at the top and click the "Sites" button below it. Just type in the address and click the 'add' button....then just click "OK" and that's it.

Note that you can also use the "Context Advisor" in Internet Options (as stated above)...and it's under the "Content" tab. You can basically set a password to block certain sites with certain things on them...customizable.

WIthin Internet Explorer 6.0, there is a feature called content advisor. You can set it up to filter based on content such as language and nudity etc. An additional feature is the ability to put specific sites on a "blacklist" preventing other users of that machine from viewing them. WIthin IE, click tools>internet options, click on the content tab, click enable under the content advisor area, then set yourself up as an administrator for content, then enter www.myspace.com and choose allow never and it will be added to the blocked list.

hope that helps!

Another option is to edit the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file and put in an incorrect entry for www.myspace.com. Point the IP address for the site to 127.0.0.1 (your local hosts interface).
