The Philippine traditional clothes are no longer worn now on a daily basis, owing to the influence of the western world as practical adaption to the fast changing climate towards a warmer trend all around the world. The clothes would be too hot for comfort if still worn today particularly during summer season.
You will see in the first referred website below both the formal and informal wears in the olden times. For daily use, the women wore the baro at saya or the whole sleeveless dress with kimona on top. Men on the other hand wore kamisa de chino - a kind of t-shirt with a small opening at the neck with three buttons or a colored cotton shirt usually checkered on top of corded pyjama type cotton pants.
For formal occasions, most women wore the Mestiza dress, the one made famous by the former First Lady Imelda Marcos during the term of President Marcos. President Marcos himself always wore Barong Tagalog during official events and formal occasions.
While the first website has shown the formal wears mostly in beige and ecru colors, the second website will show you the more colorful side of the Filipino clothes worn during fiestas or certain traditional celebrations.
The Filipino clothes would be too expensive now to wear on a daily basis, and so are honored as the clothes to wear during formal occasions.
