The past tense of beat is beat. The spelling is not what bothers me....but the pronounciation. Is it pronounced "beet" or "bet"(like read and read).
Do I say "he 'beet' me" or "he 'bet' me"?

Though the past tense of read has a different pronunciation from its present tense, it is not applicabble in beat.

The past and pressent tense are pronounced the same way...BEET

You'll have to go the past participle route,

I was beaten
She had beaten to a bloody pulp.
He has beaten me for the last eight games.
She beat me silly.

No such thing as "beated" though that sure would make English easier
