It's somewhat uncommon, but it happens. The actual numbers of people born with ambiguous genitalia or genitalia of male/female is often covered up by doctors, who perform surgery on infants to "assign" them a sex at birth. We don't really know how many intersexed people there are in the world because of the efforts made to hide it.

There are people who are intersexed and have no idea, or those who were "assigned" a sex at birth and it unfortunately doesn't correspond as to how they identify now (because there's a large change a doctor won't get it right, which is why it's dangerous to change an intersexed infant), and there are people who didn't have surgery when they were infants, who live as intersexed individuals.

it is a mutation from birth ... it is only because the genitals did not get to form fully while still a fetus.
all babies start out as 'girls' and either the ovaries/testies will drop and then the right parts begin to grow ... but sometime rarely both begin to grow ... it is just a mutation.

No, but true story, they are called morphodites, or hermaphrodites. Morphidites have their gender chosen by the parents (in my case) and are assigned a gender (i should have been born a girl but instead am male) and i have a scar between my legs as proof.

Hermaphrodites are morphodites that never had a gender chosen, and grow up i dont know what or how they grow up but they do.
