I have a Renault Clio 2001, and the problem is that there is water leaking out of it somewhere. It is not leaking continuosly but all at once and then stops, i have spoken to three mechanics and they dont have a clue, it is not building pressure as yet but they think it might be the start of the head gasket going.... Any ideas?? Thanks!

Probably an overflow. Your thermostat maybe taking too long to open. Get it replaced, it's cheap and see if it still does it.

Hi

This sounds like the water pump. They will leak once the car has warmed up then stop leaking once it has cooled down, hence no sign or evidence of a leak.

Let the car idle till it is hot and then have a look around the area of the water pump and see if you can see any leakage. It may be a good idea to remove the timing cover.

Cheers

Perform pressure test on water system

If the pressure drops , there is a leak and try and find it by inspection.

Mostly you will need to replace your radiator with a recond. one.

the waterpump may also be faulty( it normally has a scratching sound.) put the end of a screwdriver on the waterpump and put your ear on the other side to hear if it is scratching.

It can also easily be identified if it is the head gasket.

Also check the welsh plugs, some times , even on newish cars they have proven to be faulty and leak oil.

Hope this helps...

Has it got air conditioning, if so, water comes from the unit when you park up after use, it is normal and happens to all cars with a/c, so worry not.

Does it look/smell like coolant (usually green & strong smelling) or just water? If the latter, like barking mad says, it sounds like condensation from the aircon, if you have that, and that's quite normal.
