I was in the Navy (not a medic), If the guys on my ship went to a bar and another crew of another ship was there and there was a conflict, my ship would band together no matter who started the conflict and if there were a fight, it would be my ship against the other, again, no matter who started. If Navy guys were in a bar and Marines came, and there was a conflict, again no matter who started the conflict, Marines would band together and Sailors would band together NO MATTER WHO STARTED THE CONFLICT. If US NAVY, MARINES, and Army were in a bar and the German navy came in and a conflict started, the NAVY, ARMY, and MARINES would band together for the conflict, again, NO MATTER WHO STARTED THE CONFLICT.

I almost weep when I see that this country will not band together,

IF we did, would terrorism and rogue nations dissapear for the most part?

Mate, I can only agree with you. I was an aussie soldier for a long time. No matter what trade or corps we would stick together. Particularly against the navy. however, if the Airforce came along we would band together. All three services would stand back to back if necessary any time. I worked with americans, a lot of Brits and Canadians. It's the shared experiences which bring us together, nothing else.
Those who don't know will never know. No matter what you tell them.

Not entirely, but for the most part yes. If treasonous liberals would stop verbally attacking this country and every attempt we make to prosecute the war, then the terrorists would see our resolve. In-fighting only portrays weakness.

Also, if we did unite, then we would be stronger and have the intestinal fortitude to do what needs to be done instead of p*ssy-footing around and trying to fight a politically correct war. You're right; we do need to band together.

Forget about domestic politics, do the liberals really not understand the enemy hates all of us, especially the "progressives" who the enemy sees as a cultural threat to their primitive lifestyle?

EDIT: Rick, the problem with your analogy is that the fight isn't over. We need to finish the fight before the C.O. can ask that. And leaving Iraq would not finish the fight as much as you ostriches would like it to. Whether or not there was Al-Qaeda in Iraq before Mar 03, they are there now, and they have vowed to follow us home if we retreat. They will rally support from our retreat.

Pip, the problem with your supposition can be summed up in one word: loyalty. Our lack of resolve has encouraged them. They've been fighting this war since the 80s, and we've only encouraged them by failing to stand up united against them. The problem grows and we still fail to do so until over 3000 American civilians die in 1 day. Make no mistake, we are fighting terrorists like Al-Qaeda in Iraq, and they have no intention of simply stopping if we leave.

I never served personally, but my father was a career Army man and I agree with you. Regardless of your politics, the fact is that we have people dying in Afghanistan and Iraq and we need to do all we can to support them and their families.

My issue (on the political side) is that some people seem to think that if we ignore the Osama Bin Laden's and Saddam Hussein's of the world, they will go away and leave us alone. Evidence suggests otherwise. A completely pacifist position leads to the bullies ruling the world and that we can't allow. Remember Adolph Hitler, folks?

Regardless of our political views (and I know some here won't agree with mine) we must respect and support our troops. In many regards they are much braver than I am.

The problem is that we all can't unite over the fact that Bush is a total idiot.

Just kidding.

I think the problem is this: ALL Americans united after 9/11 in wanting to kick the terrorists @$$es. And I honestly feel that our government had something to do with 9/11 or at least knew about it because they WANTED us to unite over going to war. Now, that many of us see this for what it is, the government enjoys the constant bickering between Conservatives and Liberals because now they can do whatever they want. The best way to keep people down is to keep them divided. Also, how can we focus our attention on the real issues if we are constantly bickering?

This goes way way back in time. Guys from one unit will think they are better then the other. It won't change. Why?? Who knows. Yes it would be nice they we all could get along but I don't think it will happen in our life time. The men in my family are all(were) Marines and they didn't get along with the Navy guys, the Army guys, ect..... It is stupid but its a guy thing I guess. Good Luck

With respect, I understand what you are saying but you're being too simplistic and you are forgetting one other factor that you seem to have overlooked. Military personnel are trained and indoctrinated to act as one mind, one force and as such, cohesive reaction is an automatic response. Civilians on the other hand are not so indoctrinated and thus are not prone to a reactionary position. This in no way makes your point invalid, I merely point out that the situation is not as black and white as your training would make you think.

Edit: I should point out that I am from a Military family and although am not personally in the Military I work directly with them.

no, they wouldn't dissapear.. it's not our conviction that has created terrorism.. its 1. that they are jealous of our power 2. that they are brainwashed into thinking we are evil and 3. a result of failed foreign policy... terrorism will exist due to these reasons for years to come.

now the next thing.... yes, you take up for your buddies, your friend.. your nation... but sometimes you have to step back and say... man that guy IS a drunk A**hole.

C D, I have to argue loyalty to whom? Iraq? why do we owe them our loyalty? as for the troops..what is more loyal.. to place them into a hostile situation that has at best a bleak outcome, under supplied or to keep them from that situation... as I stated in a question a few back both sides have valid arguments.. I think too many people fail to see that.

Cuso,
That's a nice sentiment and the people fighting the war have to operate on that principle.

However; there comes a point after your bar fight where the C.O. will ask, "Who started this?"

At that point the people who started the fight will be held accountable and face military discipline.

That's the same thing that needs to be done to this administration. Bush needs to be held accountable for starting this mess with no provocation.

Simple. Liberals are invested in our defeat. The only way they think they can win is to have America lose. I know it's pathetic, but that's what happens when you think your country is to blame for everything.
