I've readjusted the rails so the door travels more freely when manually opened. I've also disconnected the opener from the door and pressed the remote's button and the chain moves appox 6-8 inches, then reverses the same 6-8 inches. There is a tiny yellow light that seems to constantly blink, it is near a square blue button, which I believe (but not sure) is for resetting the remote codes? From the last posting it sounds like because the yellow light constantly blinks it could be a problem with the board?

If the opener reverses back the the open position and the lights on the machine flash on and off several times, you have a problem with the safety beams. Make sure they are properly aligned and clean. If that's not it, watch the led. It will flash a certain amount of times then pause.
If you are getting 4 flashes, it's the safety beams
5 flashes is the RPM sensor (would need replacing)
6 flashes is a motor circuit failure (would require a new circuit board- not cheap)
when it's constant, rapid flashing with no pauses, the opener is receiving a signal from a remote

Could be several things;
All door openers have safety sensors. They are infra red so you can't see the beam. If a sensor isn't working, it will send the door back up. There is no test a home-owner can do to find the problem. You need a new unit or a professional to fix it.
I have two door openers made for Lowe's, by Genie. Neither work any more. I replaced the sensor on one door by borrowing parts from the other to fix the primary door and it worked for a while, but quit.

I came to the conclusion that they are just a novelty and forgot about using them. When needed now, I pop the link off the chain and manually use the door, using the opener for a lock only.

There is a adjustment on your opener to set how far it opens and closes and also to adjust the tension of the door(mainly for the reverse when something is blocking the door) Try messing with those 2 adjustment to see if that helps.

most likey but, i would take the remote to your local sears reapair center or call them for service. do you have a contract on the unit ? they sell maintence contracts which entitle you to a free service every year, or at least they used to wheni worked for them.

Does your system have obstruction sensors, and are they blocked or not installed correctly?
