Mauer's injury is indeed a troubling one. Definitely don't drop him, though. It's a stress reaction, which is a precurser to a more serious stress fracture. He will be getting the best treatment possible and reevaluated Saturday. I would expect he'll miss a while just to play it safe. He may or may not be available at the start of the season.
So what to do now? Well, Lo Duca is the safe choice. Moderate upside, but probably will not repeat '06. Expect a BA that dips back to his career norms of .285 or .290. Very little power or speed. Offseason surgery will lead to some questions about his health.
If you want to take a chance, Iannetta is a good one. He's a high average guy, has a solid job thanks to his defense, hits for ok power, and is playing in Colorado. THE hitter's park. I like his chances a lot, and he has a much better shot of approaching what Mauer gives you than does Lo Duca.
Varitek has some possibility of an upside, but the injury troubles are problematic, especially at his age and position. He's on a serious decline, and those numbers from a couple years ago aren't coming back. I expect a moderate bounceback, but the other two guys will both give you better numbers.
Thanks to the upside, better average, and home city, I like Ianetta as the Mauer replacement. No one would blame you for the safe choice, but catcher is such a non-productive position that you can afford to take a shot at the home run in Iannetta.
Good luck!

First, I think you are being way to hasty in picking up a new catcher. Mauer should be back in time for the regular season, so you shouldn't need to drop someone you might need.
If you are definitly going to pick someone up I would go with Ianetta. He is a lot younger than the other too and should put up some pretty decent numbers, especially since he is playing in Colorado.
last years numbers:
Lo Duca: 124 games, 5 HR, 49 RBI, .318 BA
Varitek: 102 games, 10 HR, 55 RBI, .238 BA
Ianetta: 21 games, 2 HR, 10 RBI, .260 BA

Dont drop Mauer what ever you do. I would either go with LaDuca or Veritek.
Veritek hasnt had many bad years so I think he is still worthy. (especially in that line up) and LaDuca is batting #2 in a high powered mets line up with a high average so I think hes worthy as well. (Iannetta is a rookie I wouldnt take a fly ball on him yet)
I would go with LaDuca over Veritek because of the Average and the fact he is in better batting order. (and not an injury risk)

Keep Maeur and pick up Lo Duca which is the best of the three. Keep an eye on Varitek though, he might have a great rebound from last year.

He should be back in time for season, but the injury does make me nervous. If you have a player that u dont mind dropping, i would think about picking up Lo Duca.
