So presumably guide dogs sometimes need to answer the call of nature while out and about.
Given that blind people aren't really in a position to clean up after them, are the dogs super well trained and don't defecate on the streets, saving it for when they get home, or are blind people expected to pick it up, or are they exempt from prosection?

My mind wanders to such things, I saw a guide dog and wondered. I also wonder why the police can let their horses do their business on the middle of a pavement but we get prosecuted for a poodle size one.

The Guide Dogs are taught how to wait to go to the restroom. Blind people know how long their dog can wait until it has to answer this "call of nature". However, if a dog does have an accident, they are exempt from prosecution. In any case, working Guide Dogs usually don't have a problem with this or they are dropped from the program.

Are the police the only ones who ride horses?.It is not an offence for a horse to foul the roadway.Guide dogs are trained not to foul the footpath but blind people are not exempt by law but I dint know a police officer who would report them and was in the job 30years.

Guide dogs are actually trained to sit a specific position when they have to poop. The owner can feel how the dog is squatting to know that he/she is doing their business. Then the owner takes a plastic bag and follows the back of the dog to their rear. The dog is trained to sit there until the owner picks up the poop (to indicate where it is). Even the males are trained to squat.
People with disabilities are not allowed to get a service animal, unless they know they are able to care for the animal. Even if it means having someone else assist them.

A well-trained dog makes everyone happy, including his owner. Take a little time training him, and you'll never regret it; you'll always have an obedient dog by your side. Find more https://tr.im/dYN6o
By their nature, dogs are pack animals with a well-defined social order. Through basic training, you need to consistently make sure your puppy understands that you are the leader, not him. So in teaching him the basic rules, you take on the role of pack leader.
To fit into the family circle, your dog must be taught to recognize his name and such commands as come, heel, lie down and sit.

I'm blind -- and I clean up after my dog. When we recieve our training one of the things we're taught is how to be a responsible GD handler and clean up after our dogs.
One thing most people don't realize is -- GDs are trained NOT to go when they have their harnesses on. Of course, sometimes #$&% happens :-)
There's no real mystery to it. The dog acts a certain way when they have to "busy." My dog Manly paces back and forth till he finds a good spot. If he leans down he's just peeing. If he squats and arches his back -- well -- that's the BIG busy. He stands... I find his tail, and my plastic bag covered hand finds the mess. Scoop and... there ya have it.
People who are blind are just as "aware" of what's going on around them as sighted folks. Sometimes even more so -- because we have to be. We're just clued into our enviroment in a different way.
And now... you know :-)

All I can say, is that I hope the blind person doesn't. That might come out kind of messy, although they might be able to use their sense of smell to detect where the poo is, and use gloves, and just throw them away along with the dog doo. I imagine the street cleaners do it, or another person, if it was done in front of their yards. I have never seen a blind man or woman's dog poo though. Have you? I loved your question! I had never thought of it before!

If it did one in front of my house I would make them pick it up.
If I see anyone not pick it up i will rub their nose in it you should not have a dog if you let it poop all over the place it's filthy, what would you do if I had a poop in the middle of the high st and did not pick it up, would you just step over it.
I have not seen one yet but I will keep a look out, they won't see me coming, I can tell you that, there would be poop all over the place.
And that goes for pooping poodles.
