The best way to get these skills is by sitting in when another social worker is interviewing. See if you can do so with someone. The more often you do this, the better at it you will become.

Practice makes perfect. Get a job in the social service industry - that way you can apply your skills. You can not really get it from a text book as you have to be in the moment. Remember this will not happen over night. Go to graduate school to get the professional training if you are serious about this profession - there they will teach you about the theoretical approaches to help you with your work with your clients.

I would think that if you went to several social workers and spoke with them, they could give you a lot of tips and hints. Also, they may allow you to help them as an apprentice.
