For the first question, aluminium is a very good conductor of heat. therefore, when you touch it, it absorbs the body heat of your hand. With no heat left in your hand, your hand will feel cold. It's not really the temperature of the metal you feel, but the resultant temperature of your own hand when the aluminium has absorbed your body heat. wood is an insulator, so it doesn't absorb your body heat. Therfore, you conserve your body heat and your hand remains warm.

For question 2, the water in the wet towel will absorb the heat from the hot dishes and will transfer the heat to your hand. If the dishes are extremely hot, you risk burning yourself or in the least fell some pain. A dry towel won't conduct the haet that easily as in fact it is an insulator. Therefore, it's safer to use dry towel.

Hope this helps.

1) The aluminum frame is a good conductor of heat. That means it can very easily draw heat from your body when you touch it, if it is cooler than your body temperature. Wood is a poorer conductor of heat; when you touch a wooden frame at the same temperature as the aluminum, less heat flows into it from your body.

2) Water is a decent conductor of heat, so the wet towel conducts the heat of the dish more than the dry towel. Your hand is only burned if the heat of the dish is conducted to it.

Metal is a better thermal conductor than wood. When you touch the aluminium it draws the heat away from your finger faster than the wood would, resulting in your finger feeling cold.

A dry teatowel will act as a better thermal insulator than a cold one, hence it is safer to pick up dishes with one.

I'm confused on this question as well - some of your ?'s seem serious and then the others are just ridiculous. Taking babies to the movies in general isnt a good idea as yes it does have an effect on the ears, as well as the eyes. Of course you handle a baby gently. Who would allow a baby to gag? Or beat a baby? Crying it out is a personal call, I chose not to let my daughter do it. Swimming is Ok, if your child doesnt have a skin condition and you are aware of the chemicals being used in the pool. Some pools have special sessions for babies that have the temp higher and use different chemicals. Ok - just read your additional details. Babies this young dont understand cause and effect so by taking out his fingers and slapping him (even if its done lovingly) wont teach him not to do it. He just wont understand why you are hitting him. I'm not for spanking/hitting at ANY age, but especially a baby. Perhaps you should put mittens on him if he's sticking his fingers down his throat to the point of gagging and throwing up!
