The age is a big factor. Under 12 weeks of age a fever up to 101 can be serious because there nervous system is not well developed.
After that age fevers are actually a healthy response to an illness. Fevers help to fight viruses and bacteria in the body. Sometimes it can be good to let the fever, if not extremely high to run it's course. It prevents the duration of the illness.
Remember, babies can run fevers and still be active unlike adults. Their response to fevers is unlike ours. But if a child is lethargic or clearly uncomfortable or the fever is over 102 I would absolutely treat the temp.
Febrile seizures occur in babies with fevers at times when a fever spikes too high to fast or if you bring the temp down to quickly. After age two the risk decreases dramatically. So always try to bring a fever down slowly.
I work in Pediatrics and have for 20 years. I hope this info helps.

normal temperature for a baby is 36,anything over 37.5 38 is quite high and would require a doctor as may have an infection, put a cool flannel not cold over babys head and strip them to a vest if over 37..5 anything over this is very dangerous as can cause convulsion and fitting..its not just for a newborn but for anybody toddler and adult that's how nurses etc no when you have a temp.a baby can get a fever if had immunisations this can be helped with nurofen and calpol,if you are worried speak to your midwife if baby is less than 10 days or health visitor or doctor if over that.

If you mean fever, then I think anything at 103 Fahrenheit or above would be where I'd want to make sure that the fever is being handled properly. I know the docs recommend tylenlol right away, but that often lets the child feel well when in fact it needs to rest and heal. I used to wait til 102 before I gave any meds.

rectally 99.8 is the regular temperature a baby is supposed to be...with a range of normal from 98.9-100.9 rectally. If you take the temperature axillary under the arm then it is supposed to be 97.8 with a normal range from 96.8-98.8 any thing over these is a fever. If it gets as high as 103-104 then I would go to the ER. Babies can have seizures when their temps go too high.

Depends on the age. Under two months, it shouldn't get above 102 F. After that, it can get higher, possibly up to 104 F before the doctor will even suggest giving tylenol.

37.5 degrees, they need to get to a doctor fairly sharpish if they go up to 39 or more. (fever). Don;t forget as well that if you take the temperature under the armpit it will be lower than a temperature taken in the mouth so you have to adjust it.
