noise from a computer usually originates from a moving part, unless you have electrostatic noise (which is not the case here ).

You did not describe the noise -- is it a humming, buzzing, or grating noise? The type of noise is critical in figuring out what causes it.

If its a steady hum, or buzz, maybe the power supply is the cause. If it is a grating noise, the Disk Drive may be failing.

Hi. Fans and harddrives are just about the only things that make noise (excluding speakers, of course). Answer 1 sounds probable. I would add a new drive and backup the old drive pretty soon. Fans are easy to replace. Open the case if you're comfortable and listen to each fan.

Being that you hear it when when you download, it is most likely your hard drive. If you are hearing excessive noises, it is possibly dying.
Check out the link and see if any of the sounds are the ones your hearing. If so, turn off your PC, go get a replacement drive, and clone out your info ASAP...
(I ended up losing a bunch of old family pics & the only copy of my family tree I had scanned in because the hard-drive died.)

You said it's happening when you download. This would lead me to believe it's the hard drive you are hearing while it is saving the data. If the drive is fragmented or nearly full it will cause the drive to seek places all over to place the data.

Try to run disk cleanup and defragment. If it this helps great. Otherwise, backup your data and get another drive as soon as possible.

Good luck. Hope this helps you.

I think yor computer had a virus, spam or bug like nimda inside.
usually the virus and others running the processor at 80-100%.so your processor getting hot and the fan makes auto adjustment for it.
better you chek out your PC what are running inside.see at task manager. If it does so you better to re install your PC software
