There isn't any legal justification, although that didn't stop us invading Iraq, and they were not a Nuclear power, either. It is too early to assess the effect of the capture of British sailors, as we do not yet know all the facts. There may have been a simple navigational mistake. Let's see if sensible people can defuse the situation and the sailors be returned safely.
If there is a war with Iran, Britain should stay out of it. We have already bloodied our hands enough. There would be only one reason for the US to want to engage in another conflict:
OIL.
If the law allowing foriegn companies to expliot the oil industry in Iraq goes through, they will have finished their job there and secured enough supplies to keep the United States of America's economy running, for the time being. But that's not good enough, they want to reduce the cost of oil and that means even more supplies of the stuff have to come online. It's going to take years to develop Iraqi oil, but Iranian oil is available now.
Well, maybe not. The Iranians have been notoriously secretive about true volume of their reserves. Many have questioned the given figures, including our own Chancellor of the Exchequer, who asked for more 'transparency' when reporting oil reserves because alot of them are overstated. Why? Well, the amount of oil you're allowed to pump and sell depends on the amount of reserves you have so if you have more reserves then you can pump more oil. Some of the OPEC countries doubled their reserves overnight, without explaining where billions of extra barrels of oil were coming from. One even has magic reserves that never deplete even though they produce millions of barrels of oil each day.
Despite reporting huge future reserves, Saudi Arabian production is decling at 8% per year. It is likely the same is happening in Iran. No wonder they want to deveop Nuclear power generation, they need it to keep the lights on.

They own alot of oil
They are preventing the US from getting the oil from Iraq safely.
It is nothing to do with nuclear, pakistan, india, china, even japan have varying nuclear knowledge and the US does not want to invade then.
Plus, it is their old friend Israel's idea, as they dont like the Muslim world despite being given a peice of land to live on (1947) they are still content.
I dont think the average US citizen apprecaites the passion that someone will fight to defend their own nation, so wars in the gulf will continue to cost the US heavily.

They have vowed to destroy Isreal, the USA, UK, and western culture in general, fulfill religous prophecy and rule teh world, sort of like Hitler wanted to do, but we will wait until like Hitler we can't avoid it, by which time millions will have sufered or died cruelly, including Isreal, which apparently the EU is ready to sacrifice for Middle East oil. So each side is waiting for the other to make the first official move so they can declare war with world approval.

at some point Iranian nukes will be used on US soil.. it's only a matter of time.. they hate us enough to do it.. they just need a reason.. who knows.. they might have some nukes in our cities already.. maybe Iran can't make their own nukes (yet) but North Korea hates us too and they do have nukes.. Iran has enough money to buy a few nukes from North Korea and I'm sure Kim Jong-il would be happy to sell them some.. so we go to war with Iran and *boom* there goes Manhatten.. or *boom* there goes DC. or who knows what else..
war in the 21st century is a completely different ballgame than war in the 20th century.. we need to be more diplomatic in our dealings with foreign countries.. we can't go pushing around weaker countries forever because eventually it's going to blow up in our face..

Well, I'm sure the reasons will be oil, democracy, threat to the region, WDM.
(and from Bush "Okay - I got it wrong - I should have gone into I-ran, but it was a simple mistake - my 'N' looked like a 'Q' ")
