My daughter has to choose between these 2 schools. She is interested in both theater and music, and applied as a theater major. She got into both, but we have yet to hear about scholarships and financial aid. She really wanted to go to Northwestern (big city, smart kids, the Lake, great programs) but she might not get in. Which do you think would be a better fit?

They both have good liberal arts schools and I don't think her education will lack at either school. IU will be cheaper, if money is an object. I believe that IU is more recognizable as far as a degree is concerned.
BUT, what do I know, I went to Purdue. I only live about 30 minutes from Oxford (Miami of Ohio) so I am familiar with the school. It's a nice town, pretty clean. A lot of friends and family have gone to both schools although not for Liberal Arts. So, maybe I'm not much help after all.

This one isn't even close. IU is a far superior school to Miami of Ohio. If you are going to go to a state university, go to the best one in the state. Ohio isn't even the second best in Ohio. Indiana -- like many of the other state universities in the Big Ten one of the better state universities.

Of course, Northwestern would be better.
