I dont get it. why dont you just dial their number, and call them. Talk to them with words. It makes no difference.

Its cheaper, you can take your time in what you want to say, and it saves a lot of red faced moments.

Remember the time when everyone had a pager/beeper and a cellphone? People would send you a message when you can't be reached or when they need to contact you.
The beauty of our current technology allows us to do both using one unit and there is no need to speak to an operator to send a message.
A thing you probably don't realize is that it is not always convenient to talk on the phone. You might be in a meeting, or on a train in a silent coach etc. or simply unreachable. The idea of text messaging is that you are able send a message instead of just leaving one on the mailbox and enables you to convey your message discreetly. Another beauty of this is that no one can eavesdrop on you. When was the last time you overheard a person typing a text message? Also if you are unfortunate enough to be in a place where the reception is very weak and sending messages is the only way.
I understand your argument that it is much faster and easier to dial the number and speak to the person but there are circumstances when this is not possible. Personally, because of the amount of free minutes I get I don't send text messages that much but I still admire the beauty of having the service when I need it.

Your question reminds me of the episode on THE BOONDOCKS when they were attempting to kidnap Oprah. However the answer to your question:

When the Katrina Hurricane happened there were a lot of cell phones that DID NOT work by voice, BUT their TEXT MESSAGING WORKED. This enabled them to communicate despite not being able to talk.
Everyday use: it summarizes what the person wanted to relay to the other person and it RECORDS a written note or message where otherwise hearing it verbally they may have forgotten it. Now it's written until deleted.

i guess the use of text messaging is that, people need communication.. And although texting could be annoying, it is a cool way to stay in touch, check on a person, meet a person, be there for somebody(or atleast showing you care), knowing where a peron is.. There are so many reasons. But we should all be careful, because texting is also a host for satan for doing evil.. And that could disturb your life as a person and a Christian.. SO text happy!!

I completely agree, personally.

However, what I've been told when I've asked this, is that it is slightly more "anonymous". Flirting is often done by text messaging because if you are rejected, it's not "in-person."

I don't text. It takes a lot longer for me to text something than it would for me to just leave a voicemail. But apparently there's a whole generation of people that prefer to text.

And wif da hole txt abbr thing, u almst have 2 lrn a new lang. L8R!

Because as far as I know text messaging is cheaper. It is more cheaper to send one text messages then to have to socailise with friends and family to be nice and human by calling them and pay more and spend more time.

Basically it is because it is more convinient, cost-efficient and some people just don't like to talk, like me!

because it's quicker and more concise...sometimes you don't want a whole conversation, you just want to tell them you'll be there at what ever time or can they text you someones number. Plus talking is noisy, when you're on a train it's more polite to text someone than shout that you'd like bangers and mash for supper!

sometimes you cannot make noise in certain situation so its better to just text them without produces noise when you actually speak with he person. And another thing is that the idea of texting someone is catching on with society very quickly..just like online messaging programs like Msn and AIM. its like a fab people just like doing it even though its harder then actually speaking
