Having a debate with my friend last night and neither one of us had a definite answer

They made it a point never to say....so it remains a mystery.
I guess so no particular nationality could get offended that they were being made fun of.

Nobody knows where F.E.S. (aka: FEZ) is from and F.E.S. is not actually his name either...F.E.S. means Foreign Exchange Student.

they said once it was below south america or something, but his name isnt fez, its long and confusing and they just said "okay... we'll just call you fes (fez)"

They never tell you where he's from. There is an episode where he says it to someone, but the bell rings while he's saying it so we can't hear him.
