I'm starting to really wonder if that's one of the big reasons I don't like my job anymore. I'm 26, and I work in an office of all women. The rest of the women in my office are in their 50's or older, and being an observant person I've noticed how they seem to gossip quite a bit. There was another girl who used to work in this office who was 19, and just the other day I heard gossip about her and a comment was made along the lines of "Well she's only nineteen!"
Sometimes I think that the women here underestimate my intelligence because of my age and because I don't do things the way they do them; because I'm different from them. It's just a feeling I get.

Yes. This is a most concerning issue with me. I experienced age and sex discrimination trying to land my first job in the IT department. When I hire for the Tech Teams, I do not discount anyone. It is against the law.

I have tried not to disparage the young, but I will admit to occasional lapses in that regard.
As for being treated differently because I'm not as young as I used to be--yes, I get some of that, especially from younger people who seem to think that those of us over, say, 35 aren't supposed to have certain...interests.

When I was 15 years old, I was at the mall with my mom and there were recruiters there from some branch of the military, I don't remember which now....but one of them came up to me and seriously tried to talk me into enlisting and I got so upset I cried....I was only 15 for Petes sake. It was really weird but I felt kinda like I had been violated in some way....I don't know if that counts as discrimination but its the first thing that came to mind when I read your question.................are you glad its Friday too?????

I try not to discount those that are younger than me..
I've experienced it in regards to others choosing not to hear me because, although I am younger than most of my friends, I've experienced a lot and have something to say sometimes.
Sometimes... anyway

Occasionally, I determine a younger person's behavior to be because of their lack of experience, but only if their behavior is deserving. And, occasionally I determine an older person's behavior to be because of their abundant experience, but only if their behavior is deserving. I don't feel that wisdom, or respect, has to be automatically associated with certain numbers
