This is just something that bothers me a lot. It seems that they want to get on everyone else who stands against the war, but they will not allow their own children die as the average citizen does.

Cowards. Plain and simple.

Not true. First, politicians cannot prevent their children from doing what they want to do. Second, there are politicians in the US who have children in the military.
The so-called average citizen does not exist. In the US we have over 300 million individuals. All have varying interests.

Just how does one "not let his children go into war"? Are we not a nation that prides itself on freedom? I could no more tell my children that they couldn't do what they wanted than they can. Out of the population of an entire generation in out Country, just what percentace do you think are children of politicians, and what percentage of the entire generation volunteer to serve?

For that matter, I understand that you stand a better chance of meeting a violent death on the streets of most cities than you do in the military where you are trained and equipped to handle bad situations.

last time i checked we have a volunteer army? which means that if someone wants to go into the military and they are over 18 then their folks cant do anything about it. it does not matter what your parents do for a living, the thing is if you are raised in a poor neighborhood, and the military comes knocking, you then find that the military can provide a steady paycheck and a chance for a strong future. it gives them the ability to pay for college and a full benefits package while in. medicine for family and even housing pay that is based upon the price to live in the community. wealthy families can pay for college, their children do not have to worry about health care, they have it, so they go to college and get a good job. but when your family makes less than 30 thousand a year it is a little difficult to pay for college which can cost up to 20 thousand a year depending on where you go. i was raised in an affluent family, the son of a colonel, we were not hurting for anything growing up. yet in my case it was watching my father proudly serve his country which made me want to serve as well. when i was passed over due to my terrible knees which were caused by years of football i was devastated. now my knees would not even be an issue. but i no longer want to be in the military i can serve my country in different ways now.

We have a volunteer military, and being so, it is populated by volunteers. This means that anyone who passes the physical and mental tests can join the military. I always hear the question "would you make your son join the military?" which is a silly question, considering that it is free will that allows anyone to join. The answer to your question is similar, as some politicians do have children in this war, but they can neither force them to go or stay--it is their choice.

Actually there are politician's sons who have served and are currently serving in Iraq. One of them has a son who is a Marine in the Anbar Province.

EDIT:

REP Senator Kit Bond's son deployed to Iraq as a Sniper Platoon leader in 2005.

DEM Senator Max Baucus lost his nephew in Anbar Province last August. He voted for the war and is now against the war. No one can blame him for that.

I'm sure there are more, I would have to dig it up, though.

Do you know for a fact if any politicians child has indicated that they want to join the military and then had their parent refuse to allow them to join up?

No?
Then shut up.

Children aren't allowed to serve, and parents can't dictate to their adult offspring.
