Usually, children take after their parents. So I would say that the parents themselves must be first and foremost socially responsible. For now, I can only think of four things that families must do in order to be socially responsible:
1. In homes, families must make the environmental protection one of their top priorities. Parents must lead the example of proper recycling. Loving the Earth is the best way to being socially responsible.
2. Parents must also teach children not to waste resources such as water and electricity. At a young age, children must be taught the importance of frugality as opposed to this almost non-stop acquisition of material things that mostly end up in trash cans or closets. Having this habit of a balanced frugality helps society because it creates less waste, and stresses the reusability of used materials.
3. I think it is also imperative that we show and teach children how to love nature. Remember that we humans are not the only occupants in this planet of ours. In order to be truly responsible, we must also be responsible for other living things as well.
4. Works of charity for the less fortunate. This is a MUST, while also teaching children to give it only to the right people.

By being good examples to them, and by limiting television. Too many parents let TV be the babysitter, and with examples like Bart Simpson as role models, no wonder kids are getting into so much trouble and being so disrespectful. TV has got to be the single worst influence on kids. We need to spend more time teaching them good family and community values.

easy. just love them and teach them right. be more than their parent, be a friend when others won't. Sure it might be uncomfortable for them to talk to you about sex, but think about yourself and how uncomfortable it was for you. Just steer them in the right direction. Have faith in them that they will choose the right people as their friends.
I was friends with everyone, good or bad, but they've never pressured me into smoking or drinking or having sex I was never like that. I never wanted to do that. Sure to fit in but it was just a thought, I never did it. Those were true friends.
Don't censor tv all the way, it'll be so boring if their not up to trend with other kids. let them watch the latest road rules or the hills, or maybe the dramas on ABC, CBS, and NBC. Let them listen to music they love.
Your main concern is them having sex, doing drugs, or drinking. Those are the 3 things you want them NOT doing.

good parenting! Parents need to teach children how to be polite, responsible for their own actions, and keeping an eye on them and not ignoring them.
