Sounds to me like your burner just needs a good cleaning.
Call a reputable HAVC company that works with oil furnaces and have your furnace cleaned and checked.
As part of the service call they will or should:
Replace burner nozzle
clean and or replace electrodes & insulators
properly adjust the spark gap
clean the fire eye
check the ignition transformer for proper output.
Clean and or replace transformer contacts and buss bars.
clean the burner air intake and blower fan.
replace the tank filter, and inspect for leaks.
clean & oil your pump motor
check pump pressure.
inspect your fire box and heat exchanger.
clean & inspect the controls and limit switches
clean and oil the blower fan.(conditioned air side)
replace air filter.
clean & check thermostat for level and proper setting of heat anticipator.
inspect vent piping and damper operation.
Fire the burner and set proper air/fuel mixture.
and maybe a few other points but that's the gist of a good cleaning. It's been a while for me.

Any spilled oil on the engine will smell horrible. But since you havn't added oil lately, it's something you should have a mechanic check out. Don't Take It To The Dealer Unless It's Covered By Warranty!!! Dealerships are notoriously overpriced. Many also have a reputation for exaggerating the problem and suggesting expensive repairs. Find a mechanic with a good reputation. Family or friends should be able to point you to one. Unless you drive the car like it's a rental, the engine is pretty young to have any serious problems. If it's in warranty, let the dealership fix it for free.

I had this problem last year. My problem turned out to be a bad sending unit. The maintenance man changed the nozzle first, then when that didn't work, changed the sending unit. I also had him change the filter in the line. You really need to call a furnace repairman. There are different things that could be causing this, including ventilation and water in the fuel. Good luck!

replace the filter and nozzle , have the igniters properly gapped ,clean the boiler and flue pipe and finally have the voltage output from the transformer tested for the right output to ignite the oil

Sounds to me like the vent could be getting clogged. I would have it cleaned-this is for you and your families safety also.
