First have your dog vet checked to rule out any kidney or bladder problems. Once that is ruled out make sure that outside time is potty time, don't play with your dog until his business is done, then celebrate do the real high pitched voice thing and dance and all those silly things (your neighbors may think your a nut but your dog will love it) also give him a special treat favorite treat that is reserved for pottying. Secondly, your dog may be getting confused by the every half hour outside thing, by 7 months he should be able to hold it for a while. Reserve going out to every hour or hour and a half and use umbilical training. Leash your dog and keep him close to you at all times. This way you can prevent him from going in the house at all as soon as he postures like he's going to relieve himself in the house distract him with a gentle yank on the lead and immediately take him outside. Then when he goes outside, celebrate. In no time at all your dog will stop going in the house because he will only be rewarded for going outside not inside. Also be sure to thoroughly clean the spots where he has already gone with a urine removing cleaner so that the scent is gone. Housebreaking can be done rather quickly it just requires dedication. Good luck to you.

We just got a new puppy. The crate training is great - good job!! As soon as you take him out of it - take him outside and say "Potty." He will get used to the command after awhile. Also, make sure you are taking him to the same spot each time. Puppies will have accidents, but by seven months, he should be doing better. I understand your frustration!! We leave out puppy on the couch with us, he will start whining and get a little antsy when he needs to go out. I would not let him have free reign on the house when he is inside. You might also consider getting a puppy playyard. He can stay in that when indoors and not being played with. There is also a spray that you can buy - you spray it where you want the puppy to go. This worked for a dog my mom had awhile back.

I disagree with spanking or rubbing his nose in it. This does not help matters! It will make him upset and he will retaliate by going in the house more often.

The ONLY time to discipline a dog for going inside is if you catch them in the act. Then a loud, "NO!" Will do. Take treats outside with you. Give him a treat as soon as he's done peeing or pooing and give him LOTS of praise. Make sure he's getting outside within 20 mins. of eating. Eating seems to stimulate going. Also a short 10 minute walk might stimulate him to go. If he's gone inside on a porous surface that will hold the odor (carpet or apholstry), use an odor neutrilizer like Nature's Miracle so he won't smell it there next time. Good luck!

Hello my name is Diana. this has happenes to me . I got a poodle that was a year old and wasn't house broken yet. Everytime i went away i would put her in her crate . As soon as I would get home I'd leave her out to pee. as she would come in I would say pee and I'll give you a cookie. and every time she peeded out side I'd give her a treat, soon she relized that if she peeded out side she got a treat. .I also used puppy pads by the door at night.and if she had to go she would use them . now shes 14 and one of the best dogs i've ever had . may be this will help you. Also some times if a dog has a urineary infection , has been know to cause this to happen my mother inlaws dog started going in the house and it had a infection after taking medication for for the kiddney infection he stoped. In time your little boy will do fine. hope this helps. Diana

if there was ever any dogs or cats in the home prior to him that was going on the floor their scent would be in the underneath floor boards and he could be territorial marking HIS territory or he could be stuborn in which case I had a Elk Hound at one time that did this to me and I was givin a tip that sounded silly but last resort tried put a diaper on the dog she hated having her own matter on her a few weeks after I started this she was diaper and floor free good luck

I'm thinking lack of discipline...so on the one hand, he knows about going outside, but he hasn't been punished for going inside. To him both places are equal opportunity. Next time he goes to the bathroom in the house, swat him or rub his nose in it. Otherwise he'll just think it's an extension of his natural bathroom.
