now, i dont know much about children being only 17. But my suggestion would be to just stop using the bottle. Eventually, if he is thirsty, he will drink from a cup. Just dont give in and let him use the bottle. Thats all i can say.

Just weaned my 13 month old two weeks ago. What I did was took away his evening bottle for a week, then the morning bottle for a week, then after a couple more weeks just stopped giving him his nighttime bottle. Thought I would have an hard time with the bedtime bottle, he always fell asleep with it, but just quit offering it to him and he didn't seem to miss it. It was like out of sight, out of mind, as long as I didn't offer it , he didn't think about a bottle. He may become restless at bedtime for awhile if he is used to going to bed with his bottle, you'll need to find other ways of soothing him, like rubbing his back playing with his hair, knocks my son out everytime I rub his back and hair. I got my son off the pacifier when he was five months old, so never had it to fall back on when I weaned him, if he uses a pacifier that might help.As far as sippy cups, my son likes gerber sip and smile cups, he will eventually get the hang of using the sippy cup. Offer him the sippy cup alot during the day and at mealtimes. Hope this helps.

Take the bottle away in the morning and leave a cup for him. If he gets crabby then let him have a bottle to nap and take away when he is asleep and replace with a cup. Try many different ones. But make sure he can't see the bottle. Also try drinking out of the cup in front of him and praise him when he is regardless if he is playing or actually drinking. And eventually he won't want the bottle.

offer the cup more than the bottle...he will get the hang of it if he really wants a drink. To teach my children to drink from a cup I took the little stoppers out of the cup so the milk would flow without sucking..once they got the hang of it I put the stopper back in....they were much younger though.

COLD TURKEY!

It hurts you worse than it will hurt him. I did this with my daughter (now 4). Within several hours - she gave up the battle and starting drinking from a tippy cup. And we are actually doing it this weekend with my son (10 months).

They will cry and throw a fit for a while, but it does work. And don't worry - there are no long term psychological effects. They will soon forget about bottles all together (just remember to put them away first - out of sight out of mind).

i weened my oldest 3 with playtex cups. nuby should have worked though.

but give him a few more weeks. he's been on the bottle for 14 months that is all he knows. he will have to get used to the cup. he will. trust me. just keep giving him the cup until he gets used to it.

No advice here. I gave in to the tears for 2 1/2 years.

don't let him drink lying down or he'll choke, try to slowly but surely progress to brestfeeding for its healthier milk, if no to breast feeding, try giving him, a nipple on the cup, Its the soft part of the baby bottle, try putting it ofn the cup
