Does my IP change if I change my ISP, despite using the same phone line, or does it, or part of it remain the same? How can I see my own IP? Is there a way I can hide my IP or display a false one for web sites that store or see my IP? Is there any software that helps? Thank you

Since your IP is assigned by your ISP, changing providers would change the IP address. However with dialup, everything you connect you get a different IP address, so you can change it just by rebooting the PC.

If after a reboot you are still being blocked, then the site is not using your IP address to track you. You is probably using the MAC address of your network card. It is a unique number hard coded into your network card's hardware which you can not change.

To see your IP address, connect to the Internet
Then Click on Start > Run
Type in: command
In the window that appears type in: ipconfig
It will display four lines of information which include you IP and MAC address

Your IP will only stay the same if you have a static address. Most ISPs lease an IP address for a certain amount of time, this really does vary on each ISP. To see your own I.P, it has been answered by someone else already to your question.
if you are intent on hiding your true IP address, that usally involves an external proxy server or one of multiple complex methods in masking your IP address.
A proxy server, using another internet connection, will act as like the message boy for you, you connect to it and then the proxy connects to what you want and then relays the information, only revealing the proxy information. This is traceable and not reccomended for illegitimate purposes, only the most elite of hackers and crackers are known to keep their tracks covered.
You can block pinging of your IP address using an ICMP feature which is available on most firewalls and routers/switches as standard now.
Also, the only part of an IP address that will stay the same will usually be the Class of a network, whereby you might notice similarities in the IP addresses leased to you, by ur ISP. More often than not, they are completely different, theyre are thousands of possibilities.

If you have a static IP (Internet Protocol) address, this number will stay the same each time you visit. If you have a dynamic IP, the number will change each time you log on to the internet (or your ISP assigns a new IP).
