do not pay attention to Maxi's answer above. the reason the border is being enforced via the coalition is via the fact the oil structures located in Iraqi waters are an important lifeline for their financial gadget. The IRGCN have been those that captured the Brits, they are actually not the comparable because of the fact the expert Iranian army. This team has been condemned as a 17 november for their continuing acts of harassing warships engaged in harmless passage, and the certainty that maximum of their operations are funded with the aid of piracy. very reminiscent of Cuba, the Iranian's declare extra territorial water than the the remainder of the international's countries. that is entirely conceivable that the Brits have been in a disputed section so the two aspects are telling the certainty of their own way.

As far as I know, under British maritime law, any attack on a ship or boat or it's crew that is flying the union jack in an official capacity, is an automatic declaration of war, no exceptions, even if it is a rowing boat.
Some British Navy guy correct me if I am wrong about that.
Yes, Iran has done it once before but they quickly capitulated with a formal apology and returned the sailors and the boat with the promise that it would not happen again.
We will just have to see what happens.

They did it already in 2004. And recently the US army captured several iranian diplomats in the north of Irak. For Iran side it is just a way to start negociations. The issue greatly depends of the english and US reactions... Last year, for a similar reason, Israel destroyed Liban...

Probably I think it will escalate. I believe that there is now more reason to invade Iran than there ever was to invade Iraq.

Maybe Bush/Blair will see the new Iran war as a great final Hurrah before they leave power?

They were undoubtedly taken as a bargaining chip.

I hope this isn't the start of an escalation but know it is.

It depends how the UK reacts to the situation and the Americans will probably want to stick their oar in. Remember, it was the American response to 9/11 that plunged us into a war on terror - which has been very beneficial to all of us has it not?! One contributor has stated that Iran is itching for a war, I really think it's the other way around isn't it - America busy thinking up new reasons to attack Iran.

I really think the President of Iran is just itching to bring the "west" into a war with him. Maybe, in his eyes, that will make him a big man...when in reality, he's just the runt of the litter.

It does make you wonder if they do want a war . If they didnt they would be avoiding confrontation at all costs not kidnapping British soldiers in Iraqi waters.

yes I think you are right but whatever I think it is awful. My Son is on that ship and if I personally could get hold of Blair and Bush I would not be responsible for my actions. They should be bringing our boys\girls home instead of sending more out to that *******place. I did'nt see Blairs Son joining up!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it will escalate, I just hope the US don't try to rescue them.
