What are its short-term effects?
Short-term effects of cocaine include constricted peripheral blood vessels, dilated pupils, increased temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, insomnia, loss of appetite, feelings of restlessness, irritability, and anxiety. Duration of cocaine's immediate euphoric effects, which include energy, reduced fatigue, and mental clarity, depends on how it is used. The faster the absorption, the more intense the high. However, the faster the absorption, the shorter the high lasts. The high from snorting may last 15 to 30 minutes, while that from smoking may last 5 to 10 minutes. Cocaine's effects are short lived, and once the drug leaves the brain, the user experiences a "coke crash" that includes depression, irritability, and fatigue.
What are its long-term effects?
High doses of cocaine and/or prolonged use can trigger paranoia. Smoking crack cocaine can produce a particularly aggressive paranoid behavior in users. When addicted individuals stop using cocaine, they often become depressed. Prolonged cocaine snorting can result in ulceration of the mucous membrane of the nose.

I'm sure your friend has heard the reasons not to do it and is doing it anyway.
One thing it can do is raise your heart rate to a point that you can have a heart attack. It is very addictive, to the degree that you can get to where the only thing that matters to you is your next fix. There's lots of reason not to do it. After a while of snorting it, it can erode the cartilage in your nose and you will have sinus trouble forever.

This site lists the health risks associated with cocaine use.
Good Luck with trying to help your friend, but don't be surprised if your friend ignores you. Hopefully they will listen. I have seen this drug destroy many lives. My husbands mother dated a dealer. She became addicted to it. Her druggie boyfriend kicked my husband out of the house when he was 16. Luckily he was on good terms with one of her ex's and they took him in like one of their own. But because all his mother cared about were the drugs, she never tried to stop her boyfriend and was OK with her son being banished from the home. She's clean now, but nothing can take away the memory of his childhood. I had another friend . Cocaine became not enough for her. She ended up overdosing on some kind of animal anesthesia (for large animals like horses). She died. Drugs are very, very, bad.
