My dogs bed really smells. Its a fabric thing so I can wash it. Only problem with that is it takes ages to dry and leaves loads of dog hair in our washing machine (even after a rinse). Also any tips on getting dog smell out of sofa (we use to let him on it but now we dont as its more hassle than its worth).
We have use febreze on some things but doesnt last that long
Thank you

(the lady who asked how to keep the dog off the sofa) Well I watched its me or the dog allot and got her book its very good. Every single time our dog tries to get on the sofa we tell him to get down in an angry voice. Another thing to do is get off the sofa yourself as he sometimes only wants to go on it cause we are there. good luck with the dog.

I'd start with a professional cleaning for the couch.

Or, if the areas that touched the dog were cushions with zippered fabric that can be removed and taken to the dry cleaner. The cushions themselves may need to be replaced. Your nose will tell you.

I always have two blankets on the couch extending from the back, over the top and down the front and then covered with a flannel sheet. OK, not pretty, but easily whipped off for company and the triple layer keeps dog stink from the couch.

As for the dog bed, you could take it to a laundromat and leave the dog hair for someone else.....hmmmm. I wash mine at home and run the next load with "dog towels and rags" so I'm not concerned too much about dog hair. Maybe because my 5 dogs are long haired, but I find the dryer removes the hairs quite nicely so there's very little re-hair on future clothes. I understand short hair is harder.......

There is two things you can do besides wash them in your washer,Before cleaning please vacuum dog hairs from bed and your furniture you can simply sponge some White Vinegar on the fabric of the dog bed and allow to air dry, your dog bed will be clean and fresh without using your washing machine, then when dry just sprinkle a little baking soda in the bed leave for a few hours then vacuum out, you won't smell anymore dog odor and you have also save yourself some money on cleaners and laundry detergent. Now for the second method you can make your own fabreze, just use a sprayer from say a windex type bottle that has been washed and rinsed out really well it must have a very fine mist setting on it though, then quarter of a cup of any type any scent you prefer to the sprayer bottle and add two tablespoons of baking soda then add warm water to about the half line or three quarter mark on the bottle, thats it ! then just spray your furniture anything you would spray fabreze on except this stuff works better. Good Luck !

bless is little soul, they just think it´s right to sit on the couch , but like you say it´s more hassle for you . Well you could hoover the his bed before putting it in the machine. Also there is a air freshener called OUST, I use it all over the house, my daughter has a dog and she just gives a spray of this & it work´s they say it can rid the smell of skunk & I´m sure it can. Look it up for yourself , they do say it´s not for fabric but so far it has done no damage to any thing I have sprayed around . It really gets rid of smell´s and straight away not like some you spray and it all seem´s to fall to the ground. It´s buy Johnson wax company

good Lord that must be one hairy pooch! Have you tried removing the hair before washing the bed? You can get a rubber brushed that picks up pet hair at pet stores or places like Bed Bath & Beyond. They work really well. As far as the sofa goes, you could try vacuuming it and then spraying with the febreeze but you may have to have it professionally cleaned and then not let him back on it. Good luck, there's nothing worse than pet oders.

Vacuum dog bed before washing. after you have gotten it real dry, make or buy a cover for it that is a heavy fabric. Then just wash cover. This makes it soooo mush easier.
Regarding your sofa-some sofas' covers have zippers so you can take off and wash but do not put in dryer-hang on clothes line., if yours has this do it. but before you put back on cover cushions with large garbage bags, so if smell got into cushions it won't come through, and if it hasn't made it that far, it won't get there. If does not have zippers rent or call someone to steam clean.

Well I used to hoover my dogs bed regularly and put in in the washing machine once every few months!! Try hoovering it before putting it in the machine - this will reduce the likelihood of the machine being clogged up with dog hair!! And once again the only way of reducing the smell of dog hair is to hoover your house regularly. Hoovering it once a day will keep the smell at bay!!

Using febreeze or other odour neutralisers is only a temporary measure - they are pointless really because you are just masking the smell as opposed to get rid of the source of the smell: that is, the dog hair!

Hoover the dog bed and the settee daily. Get the dog bed in the washer - have 2 so you dont need to dry it quickly - or buy a plastic dog bed that you can wash by hand and just have a mattress in it. I think you might have to have a professional clean done on the settee. Next time, get a dog breed that groes hair rather than sheds fur.

There's a product called Dinovite. Check it out at Dinovite.com It comes in a powdered form and you prepare dog biscuits from it. It really works on taking away your pets odor, breath and body. We had the same problem and determined the best way was to take away the source. This stuff truly does work. I must warn you though it is God-awful smelling when you bake these things, but the dogs love em.

Have you tried using a carpet powder and then vacuuming it? We use this powder by Arm and Hammer that is made for pet smells. It usually lasts 2 -4 weeks depending on weather and stuff. We have a dog that can make things pretty smelly as well.
PS: How do you keep your dog off the couch? We have tried to do that, but man is he stubborn.

Buy an enzyme cleaner from a pet store. They seem to get the pet odour out the best.

Before washing your pet bed, put it in the dryer by itself with a dryer sheet. All the hair will go into the lint trap then you can wash it with gooing up your washing machine. Wipe out the dryer before the next load goes in though.
