I remember it clearly, and I truthfully cannot imagine why you would have felt optimistic about the future at any time in the last 60 years.

That was when Clinton was president. George W. Bush won th, I mean became President. and in a few weeks the Clinton administration economic boom was over and the economy was as bad as it was when the other George Bush was president.
If we voted for Al Gore, he would have the CIA prove the Cubans did it. Then we could have invaded Cuba instead of Iraq. Right now our troops could be at the beach, enjoying an excellant cigar.

A lot of things. September eleven was the first wrong thing, that resulted into war on terrorism, that resulted into the Taliban stuff in Afghanistan and that resulted into the Iraq war which made a lot of hate to the western countries..
