Good Question!!! I gave you a star cause I've wondered about that myself too!!
I've always eaten lots of salt on my food since I was little and my parents also kept telling me not to eat so much salt. Eventually they just gave up and stopped telling me because every time I went in to see a doctor and they mentioned it to the doctor, it turned out I was fine.
I still do eat lots of salt as an adult but I don't let my children see me put all the salt on my food because I don't want them to pick up that habbit.
I'm guessing people always say not to use so much salt because it'll probably dehydrate the body faster than usual but I'm not really sure because nobodies every explained to my the real reason.

You "have heard" wrong! Too much salt can lead to hypertension. This is an established medical fact known by all Doctors not decided by some individual!
Moreover it is also an established medical fact, that hypertension left untreated increases the risk of stroke and other heart disorders leading in some cases to sudden and premature death. The people who work in intensive care at your local Hospital may be able to enlighten you on the correct facts in that respect, so can many bereaved widows!!
But having said that you also need to be aware that everybody needs a certain amount of salt to replace salt loss caused by sweating in very hot weather. So too little salt can also cause medical problems. Any individual has to get the balance right.

I read a short while ago there t an experiment was done in the thirties with only six volunteers over tha dangers of salt . Really does that small sample prove anything . as with much of Pseudo Medical science they look at the absorption of a grain of salt and say collectively that salt causes Hypertension ( which I suffer from) My advice is make sure your balance is 5 parts Potassium to 2 parts Sodium , That's what the orientals believe with their acid /alkaline balance
Eat plenty of fruit and veg containing Potassium , Tomatoes and Grapefruit are good

I think it's so strange that people believe that too much
salt is bad for you. Why would our creator have us live
in a world that is made of mostly salt
.
What about when you spend most of your day surfing ?
Do you realize how much salt is absorbed into your body
AND ingested ? Considering the fact that by the time your
done surfing your body is pretty much pickled in salt.
Never heard any breaking news on the
health risk of spending the day surfing
Our bodies flushes out salt when we sweat , that is if
we move around. Maybe that's the health risk is the
fact that people don't move around not the salt intake.

You don't hear "died of fat poisoning" either, but we all know that too much fat is bad for us.
Basically, our bodies need a certain amount of salt to survive. If you have too much salt in your body, your cells will dehydrate as the salt will pull the moisture out of them. This is why, if you were lost at sea, you could drink very very small amounts of salt water, but drinking as normal would kill you by dehydration.
So, yes, you can die from 'salt poisoning'.
Of course, studies show that salt can have other affects on blood pressure, etc.

Yes you can die from salt poisoning, a little boy in England died and his foster parents were up in court for it. They used to give him a spoonful of salt as a punishment for being naughty, and didn't know it could kill you .
