Go the local newspaper office. Tell the the advertising manager or staff that you want to put an add. They will give you a form. You fill in and pay the amount they ask. And within a few days in the classified item your ad will appear.

craigslist.org for everything! They have listings for all major cities. You can post for free for almost anything. I think they charge to list real estate.
