The 1980's! I was born in 1979 so I grew up in the 80's. The Music Rocked and the Clothes were so Cool.

I agree with Dels Rep. Despite the post war hardships and shortages it was a wonderfully innocent time to be in your teens. We had no fears of being shot or knifed or mugged etc: it was safe in most areas. The 60s, on the other hand, was also great fun but much more brash. 60s music was great for young people but the downside was the onset of the drugs culture and its attendant problems. All in all, though, both the 50s and the 60s were good times to be young.

From a personal viewpoint, I was born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s. Love the 80s for music, TV and film. Enjoyed myself most in the 90s (uni, booze, girls...) and from a historical point of view would most have liked to see the 1920s and 1930s as I'm huge fan of Hemingway and Fitzgerald. Would liked to have met those lunatics at least once so will plumb for post war depression and the hedonism of the lost generation in Paris.

I acknowledge the 40s were great, what with the Holocaust and the War and rationing and everything, and the 50s had the Cold War paranoia and McCarthyism, but I think my favourite was probably the 'Teens' because women didn't have the vote, had to wear more modest clothing and generally knew their place. The vast majority of people believed in Jesus and attended church. Britain still had its Empire and people respected their elders and betters. Prohibition was introduced in the States. Mortality rates among children were high and over 100 million died between the War and the Spanish Flu pandemic.
Hoorah for the Teens! We can be like this again!

My favourite decade was the 50`s but that was my teenage years. I think everyone enjoys their teens. No more school.
Not yet responsible for Home and Family. It only lasts on average 4/5 years, everything is new and you realise there`s a whole new world out there. At last you start earning your own money............And lets face it you think you know it all !!!

60s. Spread my wings, got away from unthinking Tory party doctrines dear to my parents, became a socialist, believing in human rights and other stupid, humanitarian ideas. We thought we could change the world. Whatever happened to Tariq Ali (last thing I heard he was writing for the Times) and Jack Straw (Student leader at University College London 1968) ? I'm still fighting for humanity. By the way, haven't heard of Daniel Cohn Bendit for a while.

1950's. I grew up with a rockabilly older brother, and spent my teens wearing 50's clothes, collecting 50's furniture etc. I adore the whole "contemporary" design that became popular after the Festival of Britain.
