I avoided them until labor. Apparently 8 hours of solid pushing will give you hemorhoids...who knew! I will never forget hearing the nurse say "Dr, I know she's pushing because a HUGE hemorhoid just popped out." That's the only thing I remember anyone saying...I'd like to thank her someday for giving me a memory like that! lol. Anyway, you'll be most comfortable during pregnancy if you eat a high-fiber diet and drink lots of water. Also, late in pregnancy, try to avoid too much sitting. If you're on an iron supplement, ask your dr for a safe laxative.

To avoid them... keep the fiber in your diet UP... lots of fiber! Don't push too hard on the toilet... try laying on your left side more often than sitting/standing ... honestly, there's not a WHOLE LOT that you can do to avoid them... but there's lots you can do to ease them! Sorry... it's one of the "joys" of pregnancy for many women!

I dont know if this willl help you but Im still going to tell you my little trick. Sometimes when I go to the bathroom I get constipated too (4 month prego) and if I see that Im pushing too much than I just stop (even if ive done nothing at all). Then what I do is I try to eat more so that in a few hours it will just come out . I know its gross but I hate being constipated. I just wait till i cant hold it anymore and it comes out WAY easier and WAY faster..lol..Wait till you feel your gonna poop in your pants!! TRUST ME! it works! Try waiting a bit and eating foods that make you wanna go... Its works for me because I hate being on the toilet for ever and just pushing..lol.i know its gross but w/e it happens! lol.. good luck!

Don't get pregnant! :) OK, that's because it's the only time I get them.
Eat high fiber foods, take your laxative if your doc prescribes one (prenatal vitamins always made me constipated), and don't spend a lot of time sitting. Get up and move around as often as possible.
The best I was able to do was to avoid them until labor. Giving birth still managed to give me the miserable little beasts.
Good luck! And lots of hugs to you if you have them.

Buy whole wheat instead of white in breads and pastas
Eat unbleached rice and flour.
Eat LOTS of fresh fruits and veggies
Avoid alot of cheese, as it can be binding.
When I was pregnant I drank prune juice (just 3/4 a cup) every day. This helped me, alot! I had other problems also, and was afraid if I 'pushed' my bag of waters would break.
