Absolutely not. You need a dvd-rom, or dvd burner in order to view dvd films on your computer. Unless, of course, if they are downloaded dvd files, then that would be the exception.

in short you cant
to read dvd you need a dvd player or writer
what you can do quite easily is replace the cd rom drive that you have already in you pc
have a look on line for a dvd writer there only about 20 pounds now
open the side of pc (2 screws)
there will be 4 screws secureing the cd rom in the case,
un plug the power lead (just pull)
and unplug the ide lead (wide flat lead pull it out)
see what the small jumper setting is and do the same with the new one
replug all leads and screw it back in
replace cover and re-start pc
usualy you will get software with dvd writer, if not
download power dvd or nero 7
it has its own very good program to view films

Because the read head inside of a CD-rom and a DVD-rom are very different, you can not read a DVD on a CD- Rom or RW. You have to have a DVD-Rom (or -rw or +rw).

The information density on DVD disks is too high for the CD drive to even be able to find the tracking.

No, you need a dvd drive to use dvd on your computer. You can buy one for about $50 for internal (you have to open the computer an install) or for about $70 -$100 you can get an external (you just plug in and go ) you can get them at places like staples.com or radioshack.com

No you cant view DVD's with a CD drive. Dont try to play bcoz ur drive may be damaged
