My boss has a laptop he would like to add to the work domain, Problem is, he does not want to lose anything on his desktop. He wants it to look exactly the same. He is set up on his own domain. I would like to add his domain to the work domain so he will not lose anything and he can have full access to our network. Does anyone have any ideas?

If I understand your question, your boss wants to also access the work domain with his laptop. The work network and laptop must be configured so that they are able to talk to each other. The person with administrator rights for the office network should be able to do this. When this is done your boss should be able to access whichever domain he wishes.

ok i think you need to clarify a few things... somehow i don't think your boss put his computer on his own domain as you said. what you probably meant was he has his computer on a different workgroup name.

1.) his desktop means his current user profile settings.
2.) joining his computer to the domain will NOT lose his current settings if he is not on ANOTHER domain. I am not sure if you mean his computer was on another domain before or his computer is just in a workgroup. Domain and workgroup are TWO different things, ppl tend to get this mixed up if they are not familiar with MS networking. the sure way to tell is on your boss PC is to go Start --> My Computer (right click this), properties, click the Computer Name tab. If it says his computer is on a domain then it gets messy. If it is not and shows workgroup then he won't lose his current desktop settings if you join a domain. If he logs in with his same username and password his desktop will not change.

When you join his PC to the domain, he will have two accounts. his current user account and a domain account. security settings will not match if he logs in logs in with his current account, any network resource he uses will he will be prompted for his domain username and password.

you should give more specific details about your domain. If you are just renaming his computer workgroup name to your network's workgroup, he won't lose his desktop settings.

Please clarify whether you have an Active Directory Domain on your network or you just made a workgroup with every computer having the same workgroup name. Then I can point you to more technical and specific resources.
