If it is worth doing; how do you know the safe limit & how much would it speed up my PC.

Getting into the Bios & upping the voltage is called "hacking the CPU Voltage"
Yes I do have the Knowledge to do this but is it worth it - Pro's & Con's

Changing the voltage won't speed up the processor. It *may* allow it to run OK at higher clock speed, but by itself all you will do is push the CPU closer to it's burnout limit.

If you can change the CPU voltage never by more than 1 step at a time (which your mobo or bios will determine) and check for it running *well* and *cool* at the new voltage. I think the BIOS steps it in .05 volt steps...

Push it too far it overheats and it's shopping time.

#1. You don't "hack" the voltage of your CPU to speed it up...that has to do with increasing the FSB frequency or other method via Bios...
#2Increasing voltage is to stabilize the higher frequencies of your CPU when overclocking...
#3. If you don't have any Idea of what's going on here I wouldn't touch the settings of your computer or you're going to fry something...
And as posted above...Name brand Computers such as Gateway, Dell, HP have a "Locked" bios so you can't change any voltage settings of anything on the motherboard.

never raise your voltage CPU,it will blown your Processor.
the processor manufacture are build for the stabile condition with the standard manufacture use.
have you try to gain up your FSB processor thru BIOS? do you know the calculation for how to gain your processor? here you are :
clock / fsb = multiplier
sample ; you have Intel 3 GHz processor with 15x multiplier
so 3000 / 200 = 15 ,usually intel use fsb x 4 so they write 800 fsb
and the multiplier for Intel Processor are solid (you can't change it)
gain up your FSB at 215 = 860 FSB
so 215 x 15 = 3225 and your processor will run in 3.2 GHz than you test it with PC mark, you'll get better result then before
still courious? gain up more with 216 or 220 or more.
How good your motherboard can take it?
if your motherboard get hang,
just simple read the manual of your motherboard how to reset the BIOS. there's a jumper to reset your motherboard's BIOS back to normal. Try it....

Changing the CPU Voltage is not hacking first of all...

Secondly...only experienced users should even attempt it.

Third....you can only go until your Processor gets too hot...

Lastly....many motherboards from pre-made PCs (Dell, Gateway, HP, Compaq) do not allow you to change the voltage.

that CPU voltage is strictly regulated, probably 5vdc..
I f you changed it,the CPU would probably shut down, but if it didn't it would be a very costly burn out.
Leave it alone, get a new module.
