Ahem thats why momma told you to take off your shoes, carpets are hard to clean unless you have those industrial machines to clean them. Now if you plan to take your carpet to a dry cleaner or a rug place, it cant get put in to a dry cleaning machine so it has to be done by hand. Hence its expensive to do carpets, so be GENTLE on them.

I dunno...I would imagine that most builders use carpet because it is an inexpensive and low labor option when compared to wood or tile.

Carpets in the home can definitely be kept nice longer if shoes come off at the door, there are no pets in the house and food is not eaten over carpeted areas (esp little kids w/food or drinks). We have actually lived in our home going on 6 years and we only have tiny spots here & there that can be removed w/baby wipes.

In an office, store, or other public area, carpet is especially good because it cuts down on the noise level. Our pediatritian has carpet on the examination room floors & walls to cut down the noise level. Smart!

Many people just like the textured look, color & feeling of slightly cushioned carpet under their feet. Carpet is also great for families with babies & toddlers who fall down a lot!

Many who have bare floors still like to use rugs so they can add texture, color, comfort & interest to the room. Rugs, of course, are great because you can roll them up & go have them cleaned.

It is interesting though how we are so fastidious about washing clothing, sheets, etc. and let our carpets go so long between cleanings. I'm sure that carpet cleaning just depends on the person. Some probably clean their carpets far more often than others. Once our kids are a little bigger I look forward to having hardwood floors myself!

because carpet feels soft to the toes and doesn't feel as cold to the feet.
